Description

You will match pictures to definitions of Earth's processes. Many processes change the size and shape of the Earth's structures. In this game, you will identify which card represents the answer to each of fifteen questions. You will be given three cards with picture to choose from and you will have to match a scenario to those cards. Choose wisely. You only have four lives in the game.

Instructions

Play through this interactive game to learn about Earth Processes: Matter Cycling and Energy Flowing. Suitable for Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8.

Main Concepts

Weathering, erosion, and deposition can create or modify a variety of landforms, including deltas, stream beds, valleys, canyons, caves, glacial valleys, beaches, cliffs, marshes, barrier islands, and mountains.
The water cycle is dependent upon the flow of energy from the Sun.
The erosive power of water is proportional to its mass, speed, and volume.
Sedimentary rocks form when sediments, such as sand, gravel, clay, or silt, are compressed and cemented together.
Physical weathering, transport, and deposition are geologic processes that cause physical changes.
Physical weathering, erosion, and deposition are geologic processes that occur on a local/regional scale.
Moving water is the most powerful agent of weathering and erosion on Earth.
Mountains can be formed from volcanic activity and tectonic plate collisions at plate boundaries.
Mountain formation is a very slow geologic process.
Mineral crystallization is a geologic process that occurs on a microscopic scale.
Erosion is the transport of sediment and rock from one place to another.
Erosion due to underground streams can cause caves to form.
Erosion due to rivers and streams will cause sediment to move downstream towards an ocean.
Erosion due to rain or runoff will cause sediment to move downhill.
Deposition is the settling of sediments that have been eroded to form a landmass.
Crystallization of magma is a very slow geologic process.

Discussion Questions

Before the Game

What is condensation? What is erosion? How does crystal size relate to temperature? What are different parts of the water cycle that affect the earth?

After the Game

How are canyons formed? Describe the water cycle? How does fusion work? What processes might cause a change in elevation?
