Instructions
Play through this interactive game to learn about Compute Unit Rates. Suitable for Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8.
Main Concepts
A unit rate is a special ratio with a denominator of one that compares different types of measures.
Given a specific quantity in dollars, inches, centimeters, pounds, hours, etc., the unit rate is the amount for one standard of measurement (i.e., one dollar, one inch, one centimeter, one pound, one hour, etc.) relative to the given quantity.
Determine the unit rate given two quantities that compare different types of measure (i.e., Rain is falling at an average rate of ¾ inch every 1/3 hour, what is the unit rate at which the rain is falling?)
Compare two or more unit rates (each unit rate must have the same units of measurement) (i.e., Tyra runs a distance of 1.17 miles in 9 minutes. Jesse runs a distance of 2.4 miles in 12 minutes. Which statement about Tyra’s and Jesse’s average speed is true?)
