Instructions

Play through this interactive game to learn about Patterns of Objects in the Sky, The Universe and its Stars, Earth and the Solar System. Suitable for Grade 1, Grade 2,...

Main Concepts

Seasons occur in the same order every year.
Temperature and type of precipitation vary throughout the seasons.
Identify events that have repeating patterns, including seasons of the year and day and night.
Identify the importance of weather and seasonal information to make choices in clothing, activities, and transportation.
Investigate that air is all around us and that moving air is wind.
The sun is a star that appears larger and brighter than other stars because it is much closer to Earth.(K2)
Observe and record observations of the daytime sky.
Use observations of the sun, moon, and stars to describe patterns that can be predicted.
Patterns in the natural world can be observed.
The sun appears to rise and set in one part of the sky.
Observe, describe, and illustrate objects in the sky such as the clouds, Moon, and stars, including the Sun.
Demonstrate that air is all around us and observe that wind is moving air.
Observe that things can be big and things can be small as seen from Earth.
Observe that some objects are far away and some are nearby as seen from Earth.
Recognize that the Sun can only be seen in the daytime.
Observe that sometimes the Moon can be seen at night and sometimes during the day.
Know the planets: their relative sizes (i.e. Jupiter is the biggest, Mercury is the smallest, etc, comparing them to each other. No need to know actual size) and their order from the sun
Observe and record changes in the appearance of objects in the sky such as the Moon and stars, including the Sun.
Identify characteristics of the seasons of the year and day and night.

Discussion Questions

Before the Game

Can you name 2 objects that are in the sky and 2 objects that are on land? Do you know of any objects that are further away in the sky? How do we know it's day time? How do we know it's night time? What happens outside when the temperature gets colder?

After the Game

Are all planets the same size? Can you see the moon during the day? Is the sun a planet? How does the weather change during each season? What is the pattern the sun goes in? What tool can you use to see planets in outer space?
