Instructions
Play through this interactive game to learn about Understand Fractions As Part Of A Whole. Suitable for Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5.
Main Concepts
Unit fractions are to be understood to be the basic building block of all fractions.
Numerator denotes the number of parts of the whole that are indicated, found on top of the fraction bar in a fraction.
Denominator denotes the size of the parts when a Whole is split into equal parts, found under the fraction bar in a fraction.
Starts with unit fractions or fractions with a numerator of 1, which are formed by partitioning a whole into equal parts and taking one part. e.g. If a whole is partitioned into 3 equal parts then each part is 1/3.
Must specify the Whole when asking for a numerical interpretation of a model. A model split into 2 equal parts with a shaded portion can be misinterpreted if the whole is not specified.
