Instructions

Play through this interactive game to learn about Kinetic Energy. Suitable for Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8.

Main Concepts

Energy is the ability to do work.
Kinetic energy can be calculated from the equation: KE = 1/2mv^2.
Work is the application of a force to move an object over a distance.
Kinetic energy is the energy associated with the motion of matter.
Energy is measured in units of Joules.
The kinetic energy of an object is proportional to the square of its velocity.
The kinetic energy of an object is proportional to its mass.
Kinetic and potential energy can transform from one to the other as an object moves.
The greater the kinetic energy of a particle, the greater its capacity to do work/cause change in motion.

Discussion Questions

Before the Game

What causes an object to move? How can you change how quickly an object moves? What has to happen for a bike to move?

After the Game

What is the relationship between work and energy? In what ways can potential energy be converted into kinetic energy? What equations did we use to calculate kinetic energy?
