Instructions

Play through this interactive game to learn about Relationship Between Energy And Forces. Suitable for Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8.

Main Concepts

When the distance between objects interacting within a force field changes, the amount of potential energy stored in the system changes.
Work is the application of a force to move an object over a distance.
The magnetic force is a non-contact force.
When force is exerted, energy can be transferred to or from an object.
If a force does not move an object over a distance, no work is done on the object.
The gravitational force is a non-contact force.
When two objects are in direct contact, they exert a contact force on one another.

Discussion Questions

Before the Game

What is the difference between acceleration and force? What different kinds of energy can we learn more about in this game? What unit do we use when we measure work or energy?

After the Game

What kinds of energy were involved when you made Little Newton jump to avoid an obstacle? What is friction and how does friction affect the motion of an object? How does contact force work regarding both the object and the person trying to push the object? What are the energy transferrals that occur in a rubber band (elasticity)?
