This game is a historical discovery game where you will learn by unearthing remains.. Our knowledge of this period comes from fossils we dig. Each object the player finds will be added to the museum as an exhibit. This game allows you, as the archaeologist, to collect fossils and tree rings. The more extensive the collection the more you learn. ROCK IT!

Main Concepts

Rock layers, or strata, are horizontal layers of sedimentary rock that are deposited over time.

Changes in the properties of different rock layers in a core sample provides evidence for changes in a landscape over time.

Fossil evidence provides clues about how Earth’s landscape has changed over time.

Rock layers can be disturbed by volcanic activity when magma cuts through the layers and cools to form new igneous rock, or transforms sedimentary rock layers into metamorphic rocks.

Some agents of weathering include water, ice, wind, gravity, and living organisms.

Erosion is the process by which rock, soil, and/or sediments are transported from one location to another.

Most fossils are found in the layers of sedimentary rock.

Fossils are the remains or traces of living organisms that lived a long time ago.

Sediment is a small piece of weathered rock.

Rock layers can be disturbed by earthquakes, causing some rock layers to be moved apart, pushed up or down, or flipped upside down.

Weathering is the process by which rocks, soil, and sediments are broken down into smaller particles.

In undisturbed rock strata, the youngest layers of rock are at the top and the oldest layers are on the bottom.

The presence and location of certain fossil types indicate the order in which rock layers were formed.
