Instructions

Play through this interactive game to learn about Evaluate Expressions Given Values. Suitable for Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8.

Main Concepts

Follow the order of operations when evaluating expressions where from left to right: first grouping symbols, then exponents, then multiplication and division (whatever comes first), and finally addition and subtraction.
Evaluate expressions using formulas by correctly substituting the values for the variables and evaluating for the unknown (ex: Volume of a cube is V = s^3, where s =4 so V = 4^3 = 64.)
Evaluate expressions for given values by substituting the value for the variable (ex: When x = 4 evaluate 3x – 2 = 3(4) – 2 = 12 – 2 = 10).
An Algebraic Expression is an expression that contains variables.
An expression is a phrase in a sentence about a mathematical or real-world situation (Contains numbers and can contain operations).
