Instructions

Play through this interactive game to learn about Plant Structure and Function. Suitable for Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5.

Main Concepts

Structures that protect organisms from their environment help them to survive.
When organisms grow, they become larger over time.
Pollination is necessary in order for a plant to reproduce.
Pollination is the process by which pollen is transferred from the stamens to the stigma of a plant.
Behavior is how an organism responds to its environment.
Internal structures are located within an organism.
The functions of internal and external structures work together as part of a system in an organism.
Plants that have structures that transport food and water throughout the plant are called vascular plants.
Tubes within a plant stem move water and nutrients upwards from the plant roots, allowing the plant to grow.
A plant stem gives a plant structure and supports the growth of the plant.
Sharp external structures on plants, such as thorns or prickles, help protect plants from predators.
The strength and covering of a plant stem helps protect it from its environment.
The roots of a plant absorb water and nutrients from the soil and also give the plant support.
The ovaries in a flowering plant allow it to reproduce.
The properties of flower petals, such as color and shape, help attract pollinating animals.
Reproduction occurs when an organism produces another organism.
Survival is the ability of an organism to stay alive in its environment.
All organisms have structures, which are the physical parts that make up an organism.
The structures in an organism have different purposes, or functions.
The functions of internal and external structures support an organism’s survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.
Photosynthesis occurs when plants absorb energy from sunlight through their leaves.
