Instructions

Play through this interactive game to learn about Weather Prediction. Suitable for Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8.

Main Concepts

Weather maps show locations of warm and cold air fronts as well as the direction in which they are moving.
Weather forecast probability refers to the likeliness that a certain event will occur over a region based on physical laws and how similar weather conditions have panned out in the past.
Weather characteristics include: temperature, air pressure, humidity, precipitation, wind speed and direction.
Thunderstorms occur when warm air rises rapidly and condenses into storm clouds.
Weather tools include: thermometers, barometers, rain gauges, anemometers, Doppler radar, weather balloons, and satellites.
Humidity is a measure of the amount of water vapor in the air.
A weather front is the boundary between two air masses with different properties.
Wind is moving air.
Weather maps show locations of high and low pressure air masses as well as the direction in which they are moving.
Weather is defined as the conditions of the atmosphere at a particular place and time.(MS)
Wind moves from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure.
Weather forecasts are made based on current atmospheric conditions and an understanding of how air masses interact.
Tornadoes can form when warm, moist air mass collides with a cool, dry air mass.

Discussion Questions

Before the Game

What is weather?\n*Is the weather the same in all places? What changes?\n*What is a meteorologist?

After the Game

What are some tools that help meteorologists predict the weather? How do weather maps help to predict the weather? Explain things that a meteorologist can see and use on a weather map?
