Description

Light usually travels in straight lines but did you know that you can bend it using different materials? In this game, you will use a light ray to shoot and refract light. Your player will be transported to wherever her ray goes. As you play, you'll learn about how different materials bend light in different ways. Are you bright enough for this puzzle?

Main Concepts

When light transmits from one medium to another, it changes speed, causing it to change direction (refract).
Visible light includes all of the colors of the rainbow.
The refractive index of a material is the ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum to the speed of light in the material.
The higher the refractive index of a material, the more light slows down (and bends) when it transmits through it.
The entire range of electromagnetic light is known as the electromagnetic spectrum.
Some materials transmit some wavelengths of electromagnetic waves but not others.
Short wavelength electromagnetic waves have high frequencies.
Mechanical waves require a medium through which to travel.
Long wavelength electromagnetic waves have low frequencies.
Light travels outwards in straight lines from its source.
Light diffracts and spreads out when it passes through a small slit in a barrier.
Light and mechanical waves share basic wave properties in common, such as wavelength, amplitude, frequency, period, and wave speed.
Electromagnetic waves travel at different speeds as they transmit through different types of matter.
Dispersive materials (such as a prism) cause different wavelengths of light to travel at different speeds, causing light to refract into a rainbow.
Different electromagnetic waves are defined by frequency and wavelength.
A water wave is an example of a mechanical wave.
