In this game, you are in a sorting factory. You will have to sort pure substances from mixtures, liquids from solids, and get lab instruments to where they belong. The materials will appear in front of you on a conveyer belt. You'll learn information about what is in front of you to help you make your choice and earn the most points.

What is the difference between a compound and a mixture? If water is a pure substance, would a drink like Kool-Aid be a pure substance or a mixture? The ingredients of a mixture can generally be separated again once they are mixed. Can you think of any mixtures you can separate?

How did you decide if something was a pure substance or a mixture? After learning more about pure substances and mixtures, can you identify any mixtures you've seen today? The game said that coffee is a mixture. How could you separate the water (a pure substance) from the coffee once it was mixed?
