Instructions

Play through this interactive game to learn about Force Fields. Suitable for Grade 5, Grade 6, Grade 7.

Main Concepts

The magnetic force is a non-contact force.
The field lines of a force field show the direction in which a force would act on an object at that location.
The electric force is a non-contact force.
Opposite magnetic poles will attract one another.
Opposite electric charges will attract each other.
Magnetic force is the force of attraction and repulsion between two magnetized objects.
Like magnetic poles will repel one another.
Like electric charges will repel each other.
Force fields are invisible.
Every magnetized material has a north and south magnetic pole.
Electric force is the force of attraction or repulsion between charged particles.
A magnetic field is a region surrounding a magnetic material in which another magnetized object would experience a magnetic force.

Discussion Questions

Before the Game

In this game you will learn about magnetism. Why are not all materials on the Earth magnetic? In other words, what makes magnets special? In this game you will learn about electric and gravitational forces. How are they similar? How are they different?

After the Game

What happens with objects with opposite magnetism interact? What happens when objects interact that have a different N/S magnetic orientation? In this game you learned about gravitational attraction. What factors influence the strength of gravitational force?
