Instructions

Play through this interactive game to learn about Forces and Motion. Suitable for Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5.

Main Concepts

Gravity is a force that pulls all objects on Earth down towards Earth’s surface.
Motion is the change in position of an object.
An object at rest typically has multiple forces acting on it, but they add to give zero net force on the object.
Unbalanced forces cause changes to the object’s speed or direction of motion.
When the net force on an object is not zero, the forces are unbalanced.
When the net force on an object is zero, the forces are balanced.
Net force is the sum of all the forces acting on an object.
A force has both a strength and a direction.
Each force acts on one particular object.
A force is a push or pull on an object.(ES)

Discussion Questions

Before the Game

What are the forces that make an object move? What are forces that prevent or slow an object's motion? What role does gravity play in the motion of an object? How does the amount of force affect an object?

After the Game

Why do static objects have a net force of zero acting on them? What needed to happen to the upward force applied to the rocket to get it to move upward? What strategies did you use to successfully launch the rocket? How do equal and unequal forces on an object affect the object? How can patterns be used to predict future motion?
