Main Concepts

In the base 10 system, the value of each place is 10 times the value of the place to the immediate right.
Patterns of 0’s being added when multiplying or dividing by powers of 10 can be explained using knowledge of place value when multiplying or dividing by powers of 10.
Understand why multiplying by a power of 10 shifts the digits of a whole number or decimal that many places to the right.
In the base 10 system, the value of each place is 1/10 the value of the place to the immediate left.
Dividing by 10 moves the multiplicand one place to the left.
Multiplying by 10 moves the multiplicand one place to theright. If it is a single digit number then the imagined 0’s are placed in the ones place.

After the Game

in the number 36821, does the 6 or 8 have the higher place value? Given the number 2.8, how could you make it stronger than the skeleton's number, 28000? How did you know if you needed to move the decimal to the left or right? How did you know how many spaces to move the decimal?
